Item Group

An Item Group is a method of organizing items by their type. You can assign a product to a specific category based on its type. For example, if the product is a service, you can assign it to the "service" group. If it's a raw material, you can assign it to the "Raw Material" group, and if it's used only in trading, you can assign it to the "Trading" group.

2. How to create an Item Group

To Create a new Item Group go to

Finance > Basics > Item Group

Stock > Item Group

To see the following options, click on an Item Group, click on Edit.

3.1 Parent Item Group

You can change the parent Item Group of an item by choosing another one under General Settings.

3.2 Defaults

  • Default Price List: A default price list is used to set Item Prices for this Item Group.
  • Default Warehouse: This sets the default warehouse for items in this group in transactions.
  • Default Buying/Selling Cost Center: Items in this group will be billed against the default Buying/Selling Cost Center.
  • Default Expense/Income Account: Default accounts are set for items that belong to this group.li>
  • Default Supplier: The supplier set here will be automatically selected in purchase transactions for items in this group.

3.3 Item Tax

A default item tax template will be applied to all items belonging to this group. Similarly a Tax Category can also be selected. visit Quotation to know more about Tax Categories.

3.4 Website Settings

  • Show in Website: This option displays items from this group on your website under the respective Item Group.
  • Weightage: The weight assigned to the Item Group. Higher weights will result in the Item Group appearing first.
  • Slideshow: This feature allows creating a slideshow for the Item Group, similar to an Item.
  • Description: This field contains the description that appears on the Item Group page.
  • Website Specifications: This section includes the label and description for an item group..
